Connie Law

We’re delighted to be working with blogger Connie Law – one of our winners of the unearthed® Blogger Scholarship Scheme. She talks to us about how she got into blogging and what she most likes to cook.

Tell us a bit about yourself, what’s your background?

I’m just another one of those Kiwis who has popped over to the other side of the world for a taste of London life! This mainly involves visiting as many of London’s incredible restaurants as our funds will allow, weekend jaunts to Europe, and the occasional grumble about overpriced housing and public transport.
My day job is in business transformation project management so a bit of a departure from the food world, but my parents both worked in the food hospitality industry so it’s in the blood somewhere!

My blog is first and foremost about sharing my love of food and travel, but I also think of it as a space to write and share stories, something I also really enjoy.

How long have you been blogging?

I started a blog about 3 years ago but Connie Consumes was really created last year when I realised blogging was something I really enjoyed as a a creative outlet.

Why did you start blogging? What appealed to you about it? Do you have a specific objective with your blog?

I started blogging when my boyfriend and I left NZ for a 3-4 month trip across North America, Mexico and Cuba before settling in London – it was only meant to be a way for family and friends to keep track of where we were and what we were doing. When I got to London I wanted to keep it up but settling into life here got in the way… but I got back on track last year and I absolutely love it!

My blog is first and foremost about sharing my love of food and travel, but I also think of it as a space to write and share stories, something I also really enjoy.

Favourite bloggers that you read regularly and/or follow on social media?

This is probably the hardest question as I read different blogs for different occasions but if I must choose… Frankie of The Mayfairy because she makes me laugh uncontrollably both in real life and through her blog posts; Vicky of Dalton Banks and Megan of Got To Be Gourmet because they both share a great mix of cooking, eating out and travel adventures.

What’s your favourite thing to cook/bake?

Definitely my version of Dad’s laksa because it reminds me of home!

What are you hoping to get out of the unearthed® blogger scheme

I’m hoping that working with unearthed® will inspire me to share more recipes – I cook a lot at home but have always been nervous about posting recipes as I’m a bit of a slap-dash type of home cook!

What’s been your biggest learning so far?

Blogging has introduced me to the huge community of like-minded food and travel lovers in London which has been fantastic, but it’s probably taught me most about all the technical stuff that goes into a blog. From the basics of creating a site to things like SEO and social media! I knew nothing about this when I started and I’ve still got plenty to learn but it’s been great to develop some new skills.

Favourite unearthed® product

I really like the Cured Meat Selections and the Slow Roasted Sun-Drenched Tomatoes but I’m also really eager to try the pates!

Favourite food memory

I’ve been so lucky to eat some amazing food all over the world but the best meals are still the home cooked ones with my family where my parents have made some of my favourite Malaysian dishes like a curry laksa or Hainanese chicken rice!

Place you’d most like to eat?

I’m covering both ends of the spectrum here – I’d love to dine in a 3 Michelin star restaurant one day but I also love finding some local favourites wherever we go.
