unearthed® and Action Against Hunger in Rajasthan, India

You may already know that 1p from every pack we sell is donated to Action Against Hunger? We’ve raised over £400,000 so far and these donations have been used to fund life-saving and educational projects in Zambia, Mail and since August 2015, India.

Since 2010, 1p from every pack we sell is donated to Action Against Hunger

Action Against Hunger has been working in Baran (India) for the last 3 years and has been able to scale up the existing programme, thanks to our support, to cover 100 villages in the Kishanganj district. The project consists of screening children using MUAC tapes (measuring upper arm circumference) to find out whether they’re suffering from malnutrition.Once this has been carried out and children are treated, home visits are carried out to ensure that children remain healthy and parents receive information about preparing nutritious food.

The clever people at Action Against Hunger have put together a handy infographic to demonstrate the numbers and the fantastic progress they’ve made so far.

In addition to the screening, front line charity workers are also being trained to help raise awareness in the community on how to prevent malnutrition. As well as training on nutrition, staff have been trained on growing locally available nutritious vegetables so that “Kitchen Gardens” can be developed in local communities. Discussion groups and workshops are also taking place in the community with sessions on good nutrition, hygiene and basic healthcare.

The programme continues and will directly benefit 21,525 children under five (12.9% of the total population of Kishanganj).
